How we measure it
We pull a fresh image from each City of Calgary traffic camera every minute and count the cars, trucks and buses in view with a computer-vision model. Counts are averaged into 5-minute windows. “Busier than usual” compares the last 15 minutes with what the same cameras typically show at this hour on this day of the week over the trailing 8 weeks; within 20% counts as typical. We count vehicles in view (density), not vehicles per hour, so a jam shows up as more vehicles. Incidents come from the City’s live incident feed. Full methodology →
